so much for sportsmanship !

Just got back after watching the Australia Italy World Cul 2006 match. What an utterly shameful way for Italy to win after that delibrate 'dive' in the 'D' that fetched them a penaly in the last breath of the match.

I remember back in school during a house match when a player objected to a decision by the referee, our coach ran into the field and asked him to do 5 head rolls as punishment!

Such an act at a world cup final by a player of one of the best teams in the world is utterly disgraceful. If you thought it couldn't go worse, you got another think coming - because I was even more horrified when in the post match analysis one of the people analysisng the match condoned the act saying that in the italian and spanish football culture this wasn't frowned upon and was something 'natural'. So it wouldn't be weird for Italy to do it. Also in the replays the referee was in a perfectly good position to see that it was a dive.

It was wrenching to see the aussies play such a hard game with such fine spirit again a team that was obviously much higher ranked than them and then go out in this fashion. Although Australia lost the match, they did win a lot of hearts with their play - as did the Italians in fact during the game. However, because of that one last dive - there is shame in defeat for them.

And such awful referring throughout the game !!!! The referee deserves to be kicked out harder than the football.
