journalism with a short memory.
There is no dearth of people writing in about the IIMs and the IITs in india. So what do you do when you really have nothing much to write about : you sharpen your pencil and go IIT/IIM bashing !
There was this one person on www.sulkeha.com who had his post reach the top slot (judging on the comments he got) because he wrote something he thought was was a ridiculously funny description of life at an IIT (what was really written all over his blog was "So what I didnt get into an IIT ...its for losers anyway ! ").
Anyway here is an article by someone a lot more responsible and somones writing I actually enjoy sometimes.
She write an article which was published at quite a few places on indian sites about the IIM placement scene. Misplaced as i thought i article was I quote :
"An IIM Ahmedabad student has reportedly bagged a job offer of $ 150,000 (Rs 50 lakhs). The news has made headlines in all the morning papers. And a million more 'I-want-to-attend-IIM A' dreams have been created in one fell swoop"
and then she goes on to explain why we must not be happy that this happened and how it has a
negative influence on others and stuff.
This is a more recent article by her about this years placemnts !
"Lastly is a small note on placements - the fact that a student from IIM B has already got a pre placement offer of 105,000 pounds (Rs 84 lakhs) which is of course CTC and all that but I am fully expecting "IIM students gets Rs 1 crore salary" to be a headline next March. It's just a question of someone offering 15,000 pounds more. "
I wonder if she even stopped to consider who those journalists are who make such a hype about the salary ! Besides i don't think there is anything wrong in creating a million " I want to be in IIM-As". Be it for the salary or for "profound" managerial knowledge -there is nothing at all wrong in aspiring to good things in life where your ability and hard work can take you. And lets face it - if a multinational is paying this money they must have a good reason to do so. So I dont understand the didactic attitude of know it all people who want to be well wishers of today's youth and let them know the true picture. Dont dream of this , dont dream of that - that may not be true.
Of course it may not be true. But i think that scotching a person's dreams are the worst thing you can do.
dream on....and yeah will be waiting for the one crore salary news !!!! ;)
Although for now -with just 15 days left for my GRE -its back to the books !
