shocking !

"In a bizarre incident, more than 42 students, who had assembled to attended a Gandhi Jayanti function in Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh fainted while waiting for actress-turned-politician Jayaprada, MP at a public ground on Sunday.According to reports, more than 10000 students had assembled at a public ground to observe the October 2 Gandhi Jayanti function. The programme was supposed to be kick-started by ruling party leader Amar Singh and Jayaprada, local MP. The students, who had been brought in to the ground from their homes from 6' clock in the morning were forced to stand in the scorching sun for hours without food and water."

It seems a shame to me what they have reduced Mahatma Gandhi to. Apart from the obvious odious criminal behaviour of politicians like this what is even more saddening is the fact that these people are slowly strangling Mahatma Gandhi for the younger generation. Not that I am a great fan of him but what they have reduced Mahatma Gandhi to is an old man with a stick because of whom on second ocotber you have to take part listening to ridiculous some despicable speeches by even more despicable men and then get some sweets and return home.

What's also a shame for our country is the pitiful slavishness of teachers who let the children stand that way for so long ! These are the people who are supposed to inculcate values of courage, honour and moral strength into the children of india !

Expertise

Some of you may be aware of the interesting research done by Dr. Anders Ericsson around the theme of "Acquisition of Expert Performance and Deliberate Practice" An important finding is that it normally takes 10,000 hours of practice to become expert in any discipline. Of course, I can imagine this would vary a lot depending on kind of practice and how it builds on your earlier skill. So I did some quick behind the napkin math: 1. Practice Required = 10,000 hours Assuming a concentrated effort to put at least 4 hours of practice into honing your expertise in your chosen field - the other being taken up by other information tasks (e.g. did you know a large part of the so called “information work” is actually searching for information? – fun fact I gathered while working on Enterprise Search ) 2. Time required to gain that expertise = 10,000/4 = 2500 days 3. Which makes it about 7 years to gain expertise in a discipline. Interesting!

I'm a strong believer that who we are shapes a lot of our decisions. So assuming that hypothesis is true, let's try to look at two roles from two major bollywood actors: Aamir Khan and Shahrukh Khan. The purpose to try to see how how they perceive themselves - or project themselves if you will - based on what appeals to them in a role.
