The Science of the Vedas

Rig Veda: 10th Mandala: Sutra 129 :

"At that time existed only Brahma, imbued with energy in his nature and nothing else existed. Darkness was hidden inside darkness and existence was unknown. With the exertion of its own tapas,Brahma emerged out of nothing without external cause or action"

Stephan Hwakings 'n' thousand years later in 'A brief History of Time'

"At the big bang , the universe is thought to have had zero size and so to have been infinitely hot." (tapas above directly implies heat). The universe has arisen after this big explosion and has its origin in this super condensed mass.

Rig Veda 1-50-4:

"I bow to the one(with reference to the light of the sun)which travels 2202 yojans per half Nimish"

this when converted in the SI units comes out to be 299,000 km/s which is very close to the currently calculated speed of light !!

Its amazing how we have utterly disregarded even the mere consideration of Vedic teaching in the Indian curriculum describe such unmatched science and wisdom contained in them. The India of the past seems like a mere dream that somehow today we cannot believe existed. It is imperative that we realize the intellectual heritage that we have been left with and at least give students the options to study these as electives as a part of the curriculum of various courses. It is time we wake up to our legacy.

Very interesting analysis! Now I am totally curious to read the whole book!
when people try to analyze vedas there generally are distortions owing to interpretation based on one's own perception! But then again "the simplest explanation is most probabaly the right one" would be the way to approach Vedas!
Thanks for starting a thought process!

I feel More than veda or any modern education , the basic lack is giving understanding of the process of education to students. Giving them sense of what is happening. Telling them exactly what is what. Even during my college days I never seriously thought that subjects like sciene/maths have evolved. I just assumed it exists and moved on solving some stupid equations and never questioning from where it has come and why am I learning that. This is the fundamental question that we needs to be brought tp stdents mind. Rest assured, the best will evolve and survive.

Authorities words are more powerful than what common people like me think. Here is is. I got it from the

Albert Einstein was extremely interested in the philosophical conclusions of his work, and the following two quotes explain a few of the more important reasons why this subject knowledge is important.

"I fully agree with you about the significance and educational value of methodology as well as history and philosophy of science. So many people today - and even professional scientists - seem to me like somebody who has seen thousands of trees but has never seen a forest. A knowledge of the historic and philosophical background gives that kind of independence from prejudices of his generation from which most scientists are suffering. This independence created by philosophical insight is - in my opinion - the mark of distinction between a mere artisan or specialist and a real seeker after truth.
